Pip, Squeak & Wilfred  badges - Daily Mirror

The Pip, Squeak & Wilfred comic strip appeared in the Daily Mirror newspaper between 1919 to 1956. These where highly popular & had their own comic strip as well as annuals for Pip & Squeak, Wilfred had his own annuals & all three mereged into one annual.

 

The WLOG (Wilfredian League of Gugnuncs) badge and Great Gugnunc badge shows the top of a rabbits head with the ears & whiskers, this being Wilfred's head.

WLOG was founded in 1927, Pip was a dog, Squeak was a penguin and Wilfred was a rabbit. Wilfred spoke in baby talk and two of his favouite words were 'gug' and 'nunc' which together as 'Gugnunc' became the name of the club.

 

The badges where in such high demand that two manufacturers had to produce them to keep up with orders, One was Collins of London & the other was known as J.R. GAUNT: London. These where printed onto the back of the badges.
